U.S. Silver Eagles
(1986 - Current)
The American Silver Eagle was introduced in 1986 as the official silver bullion coin of the United States. The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty design—originally seen on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar—while the reverse originally displayed a heraldic eagle by John Mercanti.
Each coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. In mid-2021, the reverse design was updated to feature a new eagle landing design created by Emily Damstra, marking the transition from the original “Type 1” to the “Type 2” reverse.
Silver Eagles are produced in bullion, proof, and burnished versions, with bullion strikes intended for investment and proof/burnished issues marketed to collectors. As one of the most widely traded silver bullion coins in the world, the American Silver Eagle combines government-backed purity and weight with one of the most iconic designs in U.S. coinage.
