U.S. Bullion Coins

(1986 - Current)

U.S. bullion coinage represents the modern revival of precious-metal coin production by the United States Mint, combining government-backed weight and purity guarantees with iconic American designs. Introduced in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, bullion coins were created primarily for investors rather than everyday circulation, offering a trusted and standardized way to own physical gold and silver. The American Silver Eagle, first issued in 1986, is the official silver bullion coin of the United States. Struck in one troy ounce of .999 fine silver, it features classic American imagery and has become one of the most widely traded and collected bullion coins in the world. Its popularity stems from its purity, liquidity, and backing by the U.S. government. The American Gold Buffalo followed in 2006 as the nation’s first 24-karat gold bullion coin. Struck in .9999 fine gold, it revived the iconic Buffalo nickel design in a modern bullion format and set a new standard for U.S. gold purity. Together, these bullion issues bridge the gap between investment-grade precious metals and traditional numismatics, making them a cornerstone of modern U.S. coinage and collecting.

Silver Eagle Bullion Coin

(1986 - Current)

The American Silver Eagle was introduced in 1986 as the official silver bullion coin of the United States. The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Walking Liberty design—originally seen on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar—while the reverse originally displayed a heraldic eagle by John Mercanti.

Each coin contains one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. In mid-2021, the reverse design was updated to feature a new eagle landing design created by Emily Damstra, marking the transition from the original “Type 1” to the “Type 2” reverse.

Silver Eagles are produced in bullion, proof, and burnished versions, with bullion strikes intended for investment and proof/burnished issues marketed to collectors. As one of the most widely traded silver bullion coins in the world, the American Silver Eagle combines government-backed purity and weight with one of the most iconic designs in U.S. coinage.

Gold Buffalo Bullion Coin

(2006 - Current)

The American Gold Buffalo was introduced in 2006 as the first .9999 fine (24-karat) gold bullion coin ever issued by the United States Mint. The design is based on the classic Buffalo Nickel created by James Earle Fraser in 1913.

The obverse features a right-facing Native American portrait, while the reverse depicts an American bison standing on a mound. Unlike the American Gold Eagle (which is 22-karat gold), the Gold Buffalo is struck in 99.99% pure gold, appealing to investors who prefer higher purity bullion.

The standard issue contains one troy ounce of gold, with fractional sizes offered in select years. Produced in bullion and proof formats, the American Gold Buffalo combines one of the most recognizable classic U.S. coin designs with modern high-purity gold content, making it a popular choice among both collectors and bullion investors.

Two United States $1 coins, one featuring a Native American profile and the other depicting a buffalo.
